Your favorite classics are now made in a sustainable way!
“This shoe will not save the planet” but it’s definitely a step in the right direction!
We live in an era where we all need to do our part to make our world more sustainable and adidas is no exception. That is why Adidas has come up with the Clean Classics collection. With the text “This shoe alone will not save the planet” on the side of some of adidas’ most iconic sneakers the brand speaks volumes. The Clean Classics are almost completely made from recycled materials so you can now get your favorite classics and help end plastic waste.
Ready for the facts?
The Clean Classics are made with Primegreen; a series of high-performance recycled materials. The uppers contain a minimum of 50% recycled content. The rubber used is a more sustainable compound made from 90% natural rubber and 10% recycled rubber. Natural rubber is a renewable resource, tapped from rubber trees. The polyester part of the shoes is made with recycled materials in an effort to reduce the use of virgin materials and the mpact on the environment. The sockliner is made of 15% recycled OrthoLite, 6% bio-oil and 5% recycled rubber or made from cork, a renewable material that’s natural, recyclable and non-toxic. The laces are made of paper, we kid you not! This product is made using algae harvesting technology that helps to keep our lakes clean and promotes clean water.
How the patterns of the Clean Classics are cut is refined to create shoes with minimal material waste. By arranging all the components of the shoe on a smaller surface area during the cutting process, the use and waste is less. The distinctive cuts it creates are unique to the Clean Classics. For the boxes Adidas used leftover stock of the box material, no longer usable because of changes or mistakes in the print. The boxes are cut efficiently, creating random print patterns that differ from box to box.
